The generation of storytellers. →
“Cycling lags behind other sports with regards to its sophistication of media coverage, but with all the methods of communication at our disposal these days there’s not much left to the imagination anymore. There’s no room to fill in the gaps with tales of courage, suffering and magnificent physical feats. We have the ability to cover nearly every moment of a race via television, race radio,...

Contact Tri Series Kinloch - National Sprint...
Waitangi weekend brought another racing roadtrip, this time to Kinloch for the National Sprint Distance Triathlon Champs. As expected, it was another hot weekend of racing, literally and figuratively. The goal was just to have a decent speed session in the build up to the Wells New Plymouth Half Ironman the following weekend. Kinloch is a spectacular locale for triathlon with nice rolling hills to...

My second weekend racing road trip in a row took me to my home town of New Plymouth. This is a great event, now in its second year, which takes in the beautiful coastline that Taranaki has to offer (I’m not biased at all).  Similar to last year, it was just a brutal race.  I’d forgotten how testing the course is, it really is a complete contrast to the Port of Tauranga Half Ironman...

Cobb SHC-170 Saddle review
A quick review of the saddle I’ve been running for the last month or so on my TT rig. During some 4+ hr rides after the Tauranga Half Ironman, I started to get a bit of numbness downstairs from my Specialized Toupe saddle. I’d toyed with John Cobb’s range of saddles in the past but found that I ran into the same problem I’d had with the ISM range of saddles - the width of...

A different sort of morning swim session. →
On Saturday at Kingston Beach Ben Campbell-MacDonald dived into the chilly waters of Lake Wakatipu and began swimming.  It was 8.45 in the morning. He would crawl from the lake in darkness the following morning after 18.5 hours of continuous swimming. Ben Campbell-MacDonald became the first person to ever swim the length of Lake Wakatipu - our longest lake, at 81 kilometes long. That is like...
